Mr Meddlesome?

Alex Divov writes:

Divov, a regular commuter on Main Road in Kyalami, has a few choice words for Ward 94 councillor John Mendelsohn who requested a City and Provincial task team to investigate what, he said, was a high number of accidents on the road. This resulted in the speed limit being reduced from 80km/h to 60km/h.

This is what Divov had to say …

Mr Mendelsohn, or perhaps you should be known as Mr Meddlesome, are you serious?

By your own admission, most of the accidents are at night. You now want to inconvenience the heavy traffic flows on a double carriageway road by reducing the already-low speed limit of 80km/h to 60 km/h. The problem is not the 80km/h, but booze and reckless driving – which by far exceeds the speed limit – at night.

You now have a double carriageway road with a 60km/h speed limit. And, once it becomes a single carriageway, the speed limit increases to 80km/h again? Really smart thinking here.

You are throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Get real and tackle the real issues.
