Poem from an inmate dealing with rape

Isaac Mbilini, an inmate at Leeuwkop Prison, writes:

Rape

A Violent Act that traumatises

Day in day out we hear of Your Cruel Acts on

Our Women, Children and Grannies

You are a brutal blight on Our society, Whereby You Leave

Behind a trail of trauma

In homes You are there – fathers and uncles turned into

Monsters Who devour their families…

Children are sent to school to learn, but their guardians

take advantage of them because of you rape

You ripped the dignity of manhood out of men

Alcohol Abuse And Substance Abuse are found to be

perpetrating the disgusting act you are

The scourge you have become, you brought nothing but shame

and uncertainty to communities, who should protect these

Women, Children and Grannies when those who suppose to

Protect are the one’s abusing

Rape enough is enough about you

Why the horrible act you are, is committed to the defenceless

We’ve had too much tears on our fabric, because of the

Cruel Monster you are, a national outcry

Until when they will cry through those they know and trust

the cause being you rape.
