Bribery is not on
Many Joburg residents have been, or know someone who has, taken or received a bribe.
It’s just one aspect that many consider as part of living in Johannesburg. Some residents even believe that if they drive around with R1000 cash they can drink what they want before getting behind the wheel. These people believe the law does not apply to them as they have enough money to get themselves out of any situation.
They are an embarrassment, and should be ashamed of themselves.
The cops and officials are just as bad, conning even the most innocent of drivers into ‘buying them lunch’. Just about all of Joburg’s residents have a story to tell about someone they know who bribed a cop – or how they were told they could get out of the mess they were in by offering a bribe.
Honest and law abiding citizens: both cops and motorists are being lead down a dark path, one where there is no turning back, because some people are not able to simply abide by the rules of South Africa.
It is a disgrace that while driving through a roadblock, motorists automatically check their wallets for cash.
Come on Joburg: we have more values than this, take responsibility for your actions.
