Young motorist not drunk

FOURWAYS - Almost three years to the anniversary of my late son's death, the culpable homicide case has just been closed.

In particular I would like to address my letter to the Fourways resident and author of the article that appeared in the Fourways Review, Drunk motorist is to blame for head-on collision, week ending 24 September 2010.

Your accusation that my son was driving drunk was only your assumption and hurt us as a family very deeply. I take pleasure in informing you and all the other speculators at the time that he was not drunk as we were finally allowed to see the results of his blood tests from the department of health and the result was 0, 01 grams per 100 millilitres.

I as a mother knew he was not drunk and could see it in his eyes as a picture was taken half an hour before the accident. Next time you want to accuse someone publicly please get your facts correct. I wonder if you will have the courage to apologise publicly for writing the article that you so callously wrote three weeks after the death of my precious son and will you have the guts to put your name to the letter?

Original article: Drunk motorist is to blame for head-on collision,

Fourways resident writes:

With regards to the article in the Review, Let there be light, weekending 17 September, the accident in the early hours of 4 September was the cause of a young drunk driver returning home.

The man was in the wrong lane and involved a poor innocent lady in a head-on collision with him.

Are the authorities to blame for this accident, or the young man who was drunk while driving? I’ll leave that up to you. I think alcohol is the main cause of over 75 percent of accidents in our country. Maybe we should close all pubs and clubs early like they do overseas.
