Grade 7 learners at Education Incorporated Boutique School showcase their entrepreneurship skills
The business studies teacher at the school said the event was aimed at nurturing learners’ entrepreneurship skills and encouraging them to consider it as a career path.
A Fourways-based school, Education Incorporated Boutique School recently hosted its Grade 7 annual market day to encourage and inculcate entrepreneurship mentality in learners.
Grade 7 learners at the school were tasked with coming up with business ideas and selling different products to other learners at the school.
Beven Tshuma, the business studies teacher at the school, said the event was aimed at nurturing learners’ entrepreneurship skills and encouraging them to consider entrepreneurship as a way of creating jobs for themselves and others.
“Our country has a high level of unemployment, and it is important for us as schools teach, instil and nurture entrepreneurship skills for our learners at a very young age. The event is part of learners’ academic syllabus but also helps learners showcase their entrepreneurship skills.”
A Grade 7 learner who was part of this year’s market day, James Straus, said the event taught them the practical side of what they learn in the classroom.
“Today I’ve learned the importance of selling what your customers like the most. I also learned that there will be financial consequences and legal implications if you sell things that are not allowed. I forgot that chewing gum were not allowed in school and I’ve lost money for bringing what was not allowed.” James said.
