Acrobat Academy emerges victorious in tough competitions

Natasha Ehlers was on cloud nine about the performance of her team in the competitions.

Natasha Academy acrobatic dancers recently competed in Acrobatic Solo Dance Sport Association (ASSA) competitions.

ASSA which is affiliated with Dance Sport South Africa, paved the way for dancers to compete for their Central Gauteng and South African National Federation colours.

The owner of the dance academy based in Lonehill Shopping Centre; Natasha Ehlers was on cloud nine about the performance of her team in the competitions. She said she still beams with a lot of pride.

“My dancers were all very eager to improve themselves and achieve their goals, it is really such an honour to train these children and see their amount of dedication and commitment. We started practicing for these competitions in March and SA National Championships only finished on June 22.”

Dancers started off with a regional competition and were required to obtain a qualifying score for their routine to move on to the next round, which is the district competition.

“We had 34 dancers who qualified for the district competition, and three dancers obtained the highest scores for their routines in their sessions,” said Ehlers.

She added that at the district competition, dancers went head-to-head for the final score in order to qualify for the SA National Championships.

“We had exceptional results with 29 dancers who qualified for nationals, 16 x 1st places, 7 x 2nd places and 3 x 3rd places. 33 dancers obtained their Central Gauteng Federation colours, and we had five dancers who achieved the highest overall scores across all age groups.”

SA National Championships was held from June 16 to 22. “It was a very tough competition with a very high standard of dancers,” said Ehlers.

“They competed for their top 6 placing in their level and age group, as well as to obtain a qualifying score for their SA National Federation colours. We now move on to performing competition season as well as preparation for upcoming dance exams, we will also be having our studio show in September so there is a lot to look forward to for the rest of the year.”
