Community leader believes new toilets will restore dignity of residents

Additional toilets will help improve living conditions for residents of Clay Oven Informal Settlement.

Residents of Clay Oven Informal Settlements thanked the city for the positive response to their service demands.

The City of Joburg recently delivered additional bucket toilets to the area and hired a local resident to keep them clean.

This after Ward 93 councillor Vino Reddy held a public meeting with residents of Clay Oven on September 23 to discuss pressing services delivery issues in the area.

Community leader Sabina Molale thanked the councillor for listening to them and for his efforts. “We are happy that the city has heard our plea and provided us with additional toilets. The toilets contractor also employed one of our community members to clean them [ three days a week].”

He concluded that the residents are committed to protecting the public infrastructure against vandalism. “Our dignity, as residents of Clay Oven, will have been restored and we will no longer be subjected to use limited and unclean toilets.”
