Region A officials conduct a walkabout in Ward 94 to identify and respond to service delivery issues

Having both councillors and City officials physically attending to service delivery issues and hot spots can help us cut-off unnecessary delays to service delivery.

Ward 94 councillor David Foley said the recently introduced walkabout programme in different wards of Region A will help accelerate services delivery in communities.

This was after Foley and Region A officials recently conducted a ward walkabout to assess and monitor the state of service delivery in different parts of the ward. “I had a planned meeting with the Region A director, Abigail Ndlovu and officials from Johannesburg Road Agency, Johannesburg Water, JCPZ, social services, housing and many other teams.

“Our focus was to assess and monitor the state of service delivery in our ward. We had our focus on issues like patching potholes, clearing of bins, resurfacing, grading and streetlights.”

Foley said programmes of this nature should be conducted continually in order to accelerate service delivery. “Having both councillors and city officials physically attending to service delivery issues and hot spots can help us cut-off unnecessary delays and solve problems quickly. It was great to drive around with the regional team and go point to point to show them what needs to be done.”

Ndlovu said they have taken a decision to visit all the wards in the region after it was realised that reports presented to them were contradicting what was happening on the ground. “Our aim through this ward visits programme is to speed up service delivery and respond quickly to issues that bother communities.”
