Four suspects appear in Randburg Magistrate’s Court for possession of firearm, ammunition and suspected stolen car

The station spokesperson said it was later revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen at Cleveland Police Station last month.

Police arrested four male suspects aged between 27 and 42 years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle on October 2.

Diepsloot Police Station spokesperson Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said the police were conducting patrols in the west of Diepsloot when they spotted a suspicious-looking motor vehicle without number plates.

“Upon pulling over the vehicle, the police searched and found a firearm hidden in the car. All suspects denied ownership of the firearm and as a result, all the occupants were charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm.”

Mathebula said a test to check ownership of the vehicle revealed that it had been reported as stolen at Cleveland Police Station last month.

He said all four suspects briefly appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on October 4 on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and a suspected stolen motor vehicle.
