Suspect appears in court for allegedly defrauding his employer of R500 000

The station spokesperson said the suspect went into hiding soon after committing the alleged crime in June.

Police in Diepsloot have arrested a manager of a local supermarket retailer for allegedly defrauding his employer.

The suspect was arrested on October 5 and briefly appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on October 6 on a fraud charge.

It is alleged that the accused made unauthorised transactions to the value of R500 000 to various unknown bank accounts.

Diepsloot Police Station spokesperson, Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said the suspect went into hiding soon after committing the alleged crime in June. “In June 2022, the suspect allegedly made unauthorised transactions to the tune of R500 000 to various unknown accounts. This illegal activity was allegedly picked up by one employee who brought the matter to her superiors.”

Mathebula said a case of fraud was registered and the accused, who went into hiding soon after committing the alleged crime, was traced and arrested.

He said the accused was released after he was granted R3 000 bail by the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.
