Douglasdale police partner with local businesses and private security companies to raise awareness of crime
Police spokesperson said the purpose of the campaign was to raise awareness on crime happening in the area.
In their concerted efforts to combat crime in the area, Douglasdale Police Station in partnership with the management of Chartwell Corner Shopping Centre and security companies operating in the area hosted a crime-awareness campaign in Chartwell on October 5.
Spokesperson Captain Mpho Tshetlhane said about the campaign. “We distributed pamphlets that can help teach members of the public about crime-prevention safety tips. This includes awareness about crimes such as business robberies, hijackings, house robberies, contact crimes, safety at shopping centres and safety for victims.
“We would like to thank all the role players who supported the campaign and also applaud the collaboration between the police and private security companies in their mission to ensure that the community of Douglasdale is safe.”

Community members were advised to consider the following safety tips:
- Avoid parking your motor vehicle where there are no security officers or car guards.
- Make sure that all the doors and windows are properly locked when you park your car.
- Valuable items like a laptop and camera should be put in the boot of your car.
- Be aware of people coming/signalling to you that you have a flat tyre, the intention can be to steal items that they see inside the car or to rob you of your car.
- Always close your windows while driving.
She encouraged community members to report any criminal activities in their area by calling Douglasdale Police Station at 011 6991333/1320 or 071 675 7358 or 08600 10111 or alternatively, use the MySAPSApp to provide tip-offs anonymously.
