Care packs for a cause

Con Brio Cares seeks donations to support families on World Prematurity Day.

Con Brio Cares, a local non-profit organisation is reaching out to the community in search of donations to support families of premature babies as World Prematurity Day approaches on November 17.

Elindi van den Heever, the founder of the organisation explained that the purpose of this day was to raise awareness about preterm birth and the challenges faced by infants born before 37 weeks of gestation, and their families.

“Con Brio Cares is committed to making a positive impact by providing essential resources and support to these families during a critical time,” she said.

“Premature birth can lead to a host of health complications for babies, as well as significant emotional and financial strains for their families.

“Many parents find themselves unprepared for the sudden arrival of a preterm infant, often lacking essential items and support during the critical early days.”

“Con Brio Cares recognises the importance of addressing these needs and is dedicated to ensuring that families have the resources and encouragement they require.”

To make a difference this World Prematurity Day, Con Brio Cares is organising several initiatives to raise awareness and provide support. One of the central elements of these efforts is the assembly of care packs tailored specifically for the needs of premature infants and their mothers.
The care packs include:

  • Knitted clothing designed for premature babies
  • Blankets to provide warmth and comfort
  • Toiletries like baby soap, shampoo, and creams
  • Comfort items for parents, including essential snacks and beverages.

The organisation aims to create 100 care packs to be distributed to families at local hospitals, including Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital and Rahima Moosa Hospital, as well as other clinics or hospitals in need.

Con Brio Cares is calling on all community members to consider making donations.
Specifically, the charity needs:

  • Baby clothes and blankets for premature infants
  • Toiletries and hygiene products, including wet wipes, baby soap, and lotions
  • Non-perishable snacks and beverages for parents
  • Hand-knitted items such as hats and booties.

The organisation encourages volunteers to get involved, whether you have time to knit items for the care packs or help organise events, every effort counts.

“Your involvement can significantly impact the lives of families navigating this difficult journey. We believe that no family should have to face the challenges of premature birth alone. By coming together as a community, we can provide vital support and resources to those in need.”
