Successful police operation targets undocumented workers, illegal liquor traders in Douglasdale

The operation was conducted in several areas, including Bloubosrand, Broadacres, and Sunset/Sunrise Boulevard.

The Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF) collaborated with various law enforcement agencies and security providers in a joint crime prevention operation.
The operation was aimed to address crimes related to the employment of undocumented individuals which violates the Immigration Act.
Freda Boiles, the public relations officer of the forum said, “The operation also focused on contact crimes, property-related crimes and the illegal liquor trade.”

The participating agencies in the operation included Douglasdale SAPS, Home Affairs, JMPD Region E, Schepter Security, and SB Security.

Boiles said the operation was conducted in several areas including North Riding, Bloubosrand, Kyasands, Broadacres, and Sunset/Sunrise Boulevard.

“On behalf of the Douglasdale CPF, we express our gratitude to Douglasdale SAPS for inviting the CPF to participate in this operation.”

The police forum has recently warned residents about the consequences of unreported crimes. This was after smash-and-grab incidents became the latest trend in Fourways, with residents increasingly falling victim to these brazen crimes.

“The failure to open a case directly impacts the apprehension and prosecution of suspects. When no formal case exists, arrested individuals may be released due to lack of, or insufficient evidence, only to continue their criminal activities.”

She said opening a case contributed to data that better tracked crime trends, allocation of police resources, and enhanced community safety.

“It is a pivotal action that bolsters the effectiveness of law enforcement systems. The gap in unreported cases distorts crime statistics having a negative outcome on resource allocation and strategic planning by promoting blind spots and compromising community safety.
“Strategic planning and resource allocation are pivotal to our community’s safety and security, as well as to an effective emergency response when needed.”
