The estate proudly, on October 4, hosted a donation handover ceremony, benefiting two esteemed animal welfare organisations: Kitty and Puppy Haven and SPCA Randburg.

Each organisation received a generous donation of R3 000, showing Fourways Gardens Estates’ commitment to supporting animal welfare and promoting compassion within the community.

Determined to spread love and kindness, one paw at a time, the estate’s resident liaison and communications manager, Elmine Clarke, said the donation was decided under their Resident’s Homeowners Association.

Charlene Marlin and Bongani Khumalo.

“We are very fortunate to be in a situation to allow this kind of donation. We have invited these organisations to accept the donations to show how we are exceptionally proud of the work that they do. We thought why not make their lives a little bit easier when we decided to raise the funds with the help of the community for the donations? We do this annually because it is part of our social consciousness.”

Bongani Khumalo, from Randburg SCPA, expressed his gratitude for this thoughtful gesture.

“This donation will help us to continue to fulfil our mission to ensure the welfare of the animals, such as food and medication, because at any given time we pay about R100 000 every month just for these necessities. We are very humbled by this gesture.”

Mark Redwoood-Thomson, who is a dedicated volunteer at Kitty and Puppy Haven, said he is glad to be part of this wonderful cause that supports animal welfare.

“I joined because it is so important for us to take care of our furry friends. I have always had dogs from a young age and my love for them has gone above and beyond ever since I lived in the United Kingdom and back here in South Africa.”

The estate manager, Charlene Marlin, said last year they made their initial donation for World Animal Day and have not looked back since.

“It is a big passion for myself, and for the estate as well, because we are a big animal-loving community, and we are very supportive of animal charities in our community. We invited both of these organisations just to give back to the community on such a special day for animals.”

Marlin could not help but beam with pride as she spoke about how animals are part of our beings.

“They bring so much joy and happiness to us. They play a big part in our ecosystem so we have to learn to live with them, not just domestic pets but also wild animals.”
