Harley-Davidson Mzansi and GoAfrica unite for sanitary dignity initiative

GoAfrica Foundation combines Heritage Day celebrations with empowering communities through sanitary pads and circumcision drives.

The GoAfrica Foundation proudly celebrated its inaugural Bikers & Rich Aunties Charity Rally Pad Drive in Lonehill, to celebrate Heritage Day on September 21.

The event, hosted at Harley-Davidson Mzansi, aimed to honour South Africa’s rich cultural heritage and raise critical funds for two impactful initiatives: providing sanitary pads for girls, and supporting a circumcision drive for boys in rural Limpopo.

Charity Mombo, operation director of GoAfrica Foundation, explained, “we’re not just celebrating our culture, we’re taking action to ensure a brighter, healthier future for the next generation.”

The foundation’s sanitary dignity initiative aims to break the cycle of period poverty by providing sustainable menstrual solutions and education on menstrual health. This very approach helps destigmatize menstruation, fosters open conversations, and promotes confidence among young women.

“Empowering the youth is a cornerstone of our mission at the GoAfrica Foundation. By providing essential sanitary products for girls and supporting circumcision for underprivileged boys, we empower them to stay in school, maintain their dignity, and pursue their dreams uninterrupted,” added Mombo.

Tommy Sadiki, from Harley-Davidson Muscle Bikes, explains their collaboration with the organization, as a practical implementation of the concept: ‘It takes a village to raise a child’.

“HD Muscle Pull joined hands with Harley-Davidson Mzansi dealership in purchasing and donating sanitary pads to the indigent community in the outskirts of Midrand.

“Not only do we pull our muscles together for a good cause via Charity Runs, but we also pull financial muscles, especially for the benefit of the indigent youth of Mzansi.”

The rally’s proceeds directly benefited girls and women in rural areas facing significant challenges regarding access to sanitary products and supporting a circumcision drive for boys in rural Limpopo.

The organisation partnered with Rooted Generations NPC to ensure that the collected sanitary items are distributed effectively where they are needed most.

Rooted Generations, founded by Simingezwi Nxumalo, is an organization dedicated to youth empowerment in KwaZulu-Natal. They engage primary and secondary schools in life skills programs while raising awareness about mental health, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, and gender-based violence.

Nxumalo expressed her gratitude. “Our goal is to equip young people with the tools they need to flourish, including access to essential resources. Partnering with GoAfrica Foundation extends our reach and impact even further.”
