Thief caught on camera stealing in church during prayers

A thief stole a pastors laptop, money, and personal belongings during a prayer service at a church in Sandton, leaving the Fourways community shocked.

Fourways residents who attend a church in Sandton expressed their shock after a thief stole their pastor’s laptop and other valuable items while they were deep in prayer.

According to Pastor Kamwenda Mukala who lives in Dainfern, this brazen act had left members of his congregation reeling and struggling to understand how someone could commit a crime in a place of worship.

He said the stolen laptop and its bag contained personal belongings and memories, and also precious notes and ideas that he had been working on to bring people closer to God.

Mukala was baffled by the fact that his church, The True Worshippers World Empowerment Ministry, nestled in the supposedly secure hub of Sandton, had fallen victim to theft. He added given the area’s reputation for its security, it was surprising that criminals had still found a way to exploit vulnerabilities and steal from a church. The thief was captured on a CCTV camera.

“We were praying when a thief walked into my office. The door was not locked. He took my bag with my laptop, money, and bank cards. He also took my wife’s wallet with her money, cards, and ID. He walked out calmly and got into a car with another person. They drove away.”

He said the alleged culprit acted lost and told the church’s marshalls that he was new and they let him in.

“I wanted to curse him but the Holy Spirit ministered to me to forgive him and cry for his salvation.”

Mukala said he hadn’t gone to the police yet and was asking people on social media to help him gather more information so he could open a case.

“What’s next if I report the case? I posted online to get help and gather more information. When I have more details about the culprit then I can go to the police with a good case for them to make the arrest.”

Mukala recommended that churches in the area enhance their security and keep doors locked during prayer services to protect themselves from potential theft or harm.
