For Fourways Mall, the spirit of Mandela Day stretches far beyond the confines of a single day in July. The community’s commitment to giving back and uplifting those in need is a year-round endeavor.

Since it initiated its donation drive in 2021, Fourways Mall has transformed into a beacon of hope for vulnerable communities in the greater Fourways area. The mall invites shoppers to contribute gently used clothing, shoes, household goods, non-perishable food items, bedding, and pet care supplies through conveniently placed collection bins scattered throughout the space.

This year, the collective effort of the Fourways community has once again exceeded expectations, yielding an impressive total of 1 105 tonnes of donations during this cycle alone.

To celebrate Mandela Day and inspire change within the community, Fourways Mall, in collaboration with The Daily Bread and other partners, orchestrated the distribution of these essential donations to local beneficiaries. The Daily Bread, a dedicated non-profit organization, plays a pivotal role in ensuring that these items reach those who need them most, supporting various community outreach and education initiatives.

Maria Varfis, the group marketing head at Fourways Mall, expressed gratitude for the community’s involvement. “We are so grateful to our shoppers for their support and generosity. This initiative highlights the power of community and the profound impact made when we come together for a common cause. The success of this drive, coinciding with Mandela Day, shows the depth of compassion of the Fourways Mall community and our shared dedication to making a difference.”

Fourways Mall encourages individuals and organizations to continue supporting its ongoing donation drive. For those interested in contributing, donation boxes are conveniently located at three accessible spots within the mall: outside Toy Kingdom, near Woolworths, and on the upper level, above the centre court.

This remarkable milestone not only honors Nelson Mandela’s legacy but also reinforces the importance of community in fostering resilience and support for those in need throughout the year.
