AFS rolls up sleeves for help clean up public spaces

The unit makes it their duty to always make sure that they work with various councilors so that they are able to clean the public spaces.

The Augmented Field Services (AFS) unit has launched a cleanup campaign in various wards across Region A, driven by their commitment to serve the community and achieve a sustainable, marketable, accessible, resilient, and technology-driven (Smart) city.

“Our primary objective is to make our community a better place to live in,” said the director of the unit Lekoko Tjebane.

“We work closely with ward councillors and inspectors to identify areas that need attention.”

Last week, the unit focused on Sunset and Sunrise streets in Sunninghill, where they conducted skoffeling, litter picking, silt removal, and sweeping.

The need for this cleanup initiative is evident in the statistics.

“We work from 07:30 to 15:30, Monday to Friday, and our weekly plans are guided by requests from ward councillors and inspectors,” said Tjebane.

He said the frequency of cleaning depends on the dirtiness and business of the area.

The unit’s efforts have already made a significant impact, with notable improvements in the cleanliness of the targeted areas.

Through this campaign, Tjebane hopes to convey a simple yet powerful message.

“We want the community to stop littering and love their environment. We also want them to accept our staff members when they work in their areas.”

The unit believes that by working together, they can achieve a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for all.

The cleanup initiative has already shown promising results, with community members expressing their gratitude for the efforts. The unit’s dedication and hard work has not gone unnoticed, and their commitment to serving the community is evident in everything they do.

Tjebane said the success of the campaign will be disseminated to the community through various channels, including social media and community meetings. With plans to expand to all 15 wards in Region A, this initiative is set to make a significant impact.

“We are committed to serving the community and making our city a Smart city. We believe that by working together, we can achieve a better quality of life for everyone.”

He said by continuing their efforts, the unit hopes to inspire others to join them in their mission to create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable community.
