Georgia Meyer rode to glory at the Africa Shield Eventing Competition in Namibia

Georgia Meyer (15) made South Africa proud at the recent Africa Shield Eventing international competition held at Reitsportzentrum Kapps and Farm Claratal in Windhoek, Namibia.

Representing South Africa in the junior team, Georgia’s performance over four intense days showcased her remarkable equestrian prowess across the three demanding disciplines of eventing: dressage, show jumping, and cross country.

Georgia secured an impressive sixth place overall and a remarkable second place in the junior individual event. Her performance helped the South African junior team clinch a commendable second-place finish, solidifying their standing among some of the best young riders on the continent.

“Competing at the Africa Shield was an incredible experience; I pushed myself and my horse, Walt, to our limits, and I’m so proud of what we achieved together. It was exhilarating to compete against such talented riders.”

Georgia has been riding since the tender age of three, and her deep-seated love for horse riding shines through her remarkable accomplishments and unwavering commitment to the sport. Currently, she trains at Teranga Stables in Kyalami, where coach Bronwyn Pruette has been instrumental in honing Georgia’s skills, and preparing her for high-level competitions.

Georgia’s journey in the equestrian world is marked by multiple achievements. In show jumping, she has competed successfully at heights of up to 110cm, yet her true passion lies in eventing, where she is currently qualified at 95cm, and is ambitiously aiming to reach the one-star level in the near future.

Much of her success can be attributed to her partnership with her horse, Walt. Described as brave, Walt is not just a competitor but a beloved companion in Georgia’s life. “Walt and I have a special bond; I trust him completely, and I know he has my back when it counts. Our connection is what drives our success in the ring.”

As Georgia continues to rise in the ranks of the equestrian world, her future looks incredibly promising. Her achievements at the eventing competition in Windhoek have not only illuminated her talent but have also inspired many young riders in South Africa and beyond. “I want to show other young riders that with hard work and passion, anything is possible,” she said.
