Dragons Hockey Club promises unforgettable action this season

The Dragons Hockey Club is gearing up to make their sports season one to remember – with clinics, tournaments, and fixtures galore.

The countdown to the indoor hockey season has begun, and anticipation is growing among sports enthusiasts.

As a player, coach, or supporter, there is a lot to expect at the Dragons Hockey Club, a premier indoor hockey club in Dainfern, packed with thrilling moments and unforgettable action.

The club was founded in 2014 by former South African men’s hockey player, Julian Hykes, who represented the country in several major tournaments, such as the Olympics, the World Cup, the Commonwealth Games, and the African Cup.

Hykes retired from international hockey in 2018 and is now the head coach and mentor of the club, inspiring young players to achieve their sporting dreams.

“What motivates me is to see how the kids become better and better at hockey in general. It’s so good to see when they improve and make provincial and SA teams in their respective groups.

“Hockey is the best sport for you to get to meet people from all walks of life, and we all know each other in the hockey circle. We are almost like a family,” said Hykes as the club turned 10 earlier this year.

August clinics are just the beginning, offering players a chance to hone their skills and get a head start on the competition, this according to the club’s Bridgitte Fairon.
She said the participating groups range from U9 to U18, even though there is something for everyone.

Beaulieu College, Dainfern College, and Cliffview Primary are some of the venues where the tournament is set to take place.

Fairon said it would be a bad idea for sports enthusiasts in the Fourways areas to miss out on the opportunity to refine their skills and make this season unforgettable by not joining the clinics.

“The fixtures will be scheduled across Friday evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays, depending on the age group. The U9 and U11 games will take place on Friday evenings, while U13 and U14 games will be held on Saturdays. U16 and U18 games will also be on Saturdays, with U13 and U14 boys’ games on Sundays, and U16 and U18 boys’ games on Sundays.”
