Hailing from Thabana Morena, Lesotho, Moshoeshoe has always been a young creative at heart. While his peers were honing in on traditional creative pursuits such as acting and directing, he chose a different path.

The rapper burst onto the creative scene with his distinctive Instagram handle, Ntatao, a nod to the trending styles of the time. As he explored various art forms over the years, he also discovered his flair for stand-up comedy.
He said this newfound passion allowed him to merge his liking for clever wordplay and writing with a platform for hilarious performances.

Moshoeshoe has just completed recording a mixtape titled HaNtatao Radio that he is going to release later in the year.
He draws his greatest creative spark from the ups and downs of life itself, using his experiences and observations as the fuel for his songwriting process. He said for him to get the best work out of himself, he needs to accurately represent the human experience.
“My influences include a host of local and international artists including HHP, Khuli Chana, Cassper Nyovest as well as Busta Rhymes, JID, and Mick Jenkins.

“From their rap styles to how they conduct themselves and their brands, I have always admired them. The local artists made me realise that this music is real and we can relate to it by bringing it within our African context. These artists have very human-to-human relations with their fanbase – an aspect of my artistry that I hold highly.”

His studio routine when working on a new track depends on the kind of song he is writing. He said some songs took 20 minutes, and some took 20 days to write.

“I’d like to believe being a rapper informs my 9-5 job as I lend a lot of the skills I have obtained through rap to it. Copywriting also allows me to keep sharpening my pen and also to be more of an effective songwriter.
“But more often than not, I often take maybe three hours to complete a song if I’m starting it from scratch. The first half hour is for familiarising myself with the instrumental and figuring out my cadence or what pocket am I going to be writing in. From there, it’s drafting the verse and laying it on wax.”
