JRA addresses service backlog calls after seven months

Councillor David Foley said the JRA team is in Ward 94 catching up on a lot of the calls logged some time ago.

In a bid to tackle a backlog of outstanding issues, the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) team has hit the ground in Ward 94, working tirelessly to address a slew of long-standing service requests that have been lingering for far too long.

Councillor David Foley praised the road agency team for tackling the ward’s long-standing issues to relief of the residents. However, he said he had to persistently push the agency with numerous queries to get results which ultimately led to progress in addressing the ward’s pressing concerns.

“Minimal attention was given by the JRA to Ward 94 for the last seven months or so. Hence, I decided to escalate the action to the acting regional director to expedite some of the potholes, etc. The team is in the area which looks very promising to resolve all outstanding calls.

He said some of the concerns raised by residents are that potholes don’t get fixed quickly, reinstatements take a long time, kerb inlets are not cleaned regularly, and roads are not resurfaced often.

Even sand roads are not graded and rolled regularly, added Foley, while admitting that his ward faces many problems with infrastructure.

“This shows that the Johannesburg Roads Agency is not meeting its promise to fix problems within 14 days and this leaves residents unhappy. I am happy residents are now getting the service that their rates pay for, albeit very late.”

JRA’s Kelebogile Mafa acknowledged receipt of our media query and promised to revert with more information. None had been forthcoming by the time of going to print. We will update the article once received.

“Please log any new potholes, blocked storm water drains, kerb issues, or roots in the road, to hotline@jra.org.za, many thanks,” advised Foley.
