This accomplishment is nothing short of extraordinary, particularly considering that this was their first time participating in the Youth Festival, said Harvey.

From an initial pool of 40 entries across the country, the learners have progressed to the top 16 plays, and now are one of the top five, making this journey truly remarkable.

“We were so lucky to come on top on our first try after the selection panel picked which school plays were good enough to go to the live performances and a camp which starts from July 1 until July 7. This is the first in history that HeronBridge has ever entered and also the first that we have gone straight to the finals, and we are so proud.”

She added they were completely blown away that they made it to the finals.
“It was never on the cards for us because we were mainly getting into it because we wanted to gain experience and learn from it. I am so proud of these six children, they worked so hard and put so much heart into it. They are super talented, so it would be a bonus to do well and be in the top three.

“But the experience that we would gain from it, for me, and the children will be beneficial for our growth in the future and not just about winning. It is about creating holistic children that learn a lot, and Curro gives us those opportunities to do so and we are grateful for it.”The learners will stay at HeronBridge during the camp and will be mentored by seasoned industry mentors, and attend workshops that will help them with relevant information.
