Witkoppen seeks help to raise R67 000 for 67 minutes for Mandela Day

Witkoppen Clinic will be honouring Nelson Mandela’s legacy with a special initiative based on his wisdom: A fundamental concern for others would go a long way in making the world a better place.

Held on July 18 each year, Mandela Day is an opportunity for people to uplift others who need a hand.
This year, the clinic is launching a campaign to raise R67 000, symbolising 67 minutes of service to others.

The goal according to the clinic’s Sbonga Shange, is to provide consultation fees for patients who cannot afford them.

He said many patients have had to leave the clinic without receiving care due to financial constraints. By donating just R100, individuals and businesses can make a tangible difference.

When asked if the clinic is targeting that specific amount of money in donations, Shange said it is based on the 67 minutes of doing good on the day since their consultation costs R 100.

“So, in the spirit of the day, we ask the public to support 67 or 670 patients.”

Last year, the staff from the clinic provided meals for people in need in the community, and to switch things up a little bit this year, Shange said they would like to extend their services to the patients in need.

“We understand the importance of healthcare services and are committed to delivering them effectively and ensuring all who seek healthcare services, have access.”

He said 67 minutes for Mandela Day is so important for them not to miss because the clinic has been offering its services for more than 80 years.

“So, it is important for us to meet people, our patients, and the community where they are. This call to action for individuals, communities, and organisations allows them to reflect on Mandela’s values and principles and the impact Witkoppen has in the community and make a positive impact together.”

The clinic aims to raise enough funds to support as many patients as possible by July 18, and beyond. “Together, let’s embody Mandela’s spirit of humanity and humility, making the world a better place, one small act at a time,” Shange added.

Witkoppen Clinic is a non-profit organisation that provides comprehensive, primary healthcare, and social welfare services to the community.
