Schools compete in a match for the ages

Dainfern College rugby team shines at the 2024 Shadowball 7s Rugby Series Finals.

The 2024 Shadowball 7s Rugby Series Finals, a premier event on the Golden Lions Union calendar, took place at Dainfern College on June 8, to display the exceptional schoolboy rugby talent.

The event, in its second year, drew 13 schools, competing across four divisions starting from U14, U15, U16/17, and U18 in eight rounds. The series, according to the media and communications officer of the school, Chevuan Barker demonstrated the growing enthusiasm for rugby in the community, with Dainfern College proudly hosting the finals.

She said the Dainfern College rugby team excelled, securing silver medals in the U14 Cup Finals, U15 Cup Finals, and U16/17 Plate Finals, and a bronze medal in the U18 Cup Finals.

“The athletes’ dedication and hard work shone through, reflecting the spirit of sportsmanship and passion for rugby,” she added.

She said the series’ success was made possible by the dedicated collaboration of hosting schools, the support staff, and the referees from participating schools, with a special mention of the outstanding effort of Dainfern College.

“The event culminated in jubilant celebrations and excitement for the upcoming seasons. Heartfelt congratulations are for our school team and all participating schools for their exceptional contributions to making the 2024 Shadowball 7s Rugby Series Finals a truly memorable and awe-inspiring event.”

  • U18 Bowl Division: Curro Thatchfield
  • U15 Plate Finals Division: Redhill School
  • U16/17 Plate Division: Curro Helderwyk
  • U18 Plate Division: Saheti School
  • U14 Cup Division: Trinity Little Falls
  • U15 Cup Division: French International
  • U16/17 Cup Division: Amberfield College
  • U18 Cup Division: French International
