Domestic workers get schooled about crime and safety measures

Douglasdale police and various stakeholders took the time to enlighten domestic workers about safety.

On March 12, a crime awareness programme was organised for the Domestic Workers Forum at Olivewood Estate. The event was hosted by the Douglasdale Police Station alongside Nightguard Security and an Emergency Medical Service (EMS) team.

The programme was aimed at creating awareness among domestic workers, both men and women, about various criminal activities that take place in their respective areas and how they can protect themselves when such incidents occur.

The event was well attended, and the participants appreciated the efforts of the organisers. Olivewood Estate management was present at the event to show their support towards the cause.

Olivewood Estate’s management team also made an appearance.

This was also in recognition of March being a human rights month. The meeting was held to address some of the most pressing security concerns affecting the local community.

Various issues were discussed, including armed robberies, common robberies, house robberies, burglaries at residential premises, and gender-based violence.

To help attendees better protect themselves and their properties, Nightguard Security gave a comprehensive presentation on general security measures.

Additionally, the EMS provided a valuable presentation on basic first aid, which included tips on how to respond to emergencies and provide assistance before professional medical help arrives.

The meeting was also an opportunity for the community to come together and learn how to better safeguard their homes and families.

Community members are encouraged to keep on reporting criminal activities in our area by phoning Douglasdale Police on 011 699 1333/1320 or 071 675 7158 or 086 001 0111. Alternatively, use the MySAPS App to provide tip-offs anonymously.
