Crawford learners live their best lives at Sugar Bay

Crawford International Lonehill learners returned rejuvenated to continue the academic year after a school tour.

Grade 10 learners from Crawford International Lonehill had a thrilling and unforgettable experience at Sugar Bay during their bonding camp. This was for their annual Grade 10 bonding tour at South Africa’s children-only resort.

Robyn Swanepoel, the school’s client experience officer said they chose the resort because it provides a variety of activities and opportunities for learners to participate in, which promote personal development and team building.

“It was a resounding success, leaving the students with lasting memories and valuable experiences. The emphasis on water competency through the swimming test and provision of swimming vests from Sugar Bay, adds a layer of safety and ensures that learners can fully participate in water-based activities with confidence. The American summer camp model has provided a rich and immersive experience for the students, allowing them to explore various activities and customize their adventure according to their preferences.”

Witnessing the transformative effect the tour had on the Crawford learners was the cherry on top for Sugar Bay’s Herman Fourie.

“From overcoming fears to discovering new passions, each participant left with a newfound sense of confidence and self-discovery. The bonds formed and memories created during the tour will undoubtedly last a lifetime, and we are honoured to have been a part of their journey. Our school tours are tailor-made to balance educational study and fun activities, ensuring that learning is done interestingly and memorably. We prefer for schools to send us their curriculum and our team of creative and academic managers will tailor-make a programme just for their school.”

Sugar Bay offers over 100 activities, and has a free choice system, in which children may choose what activities they want to participate in. There are no compulsory activities, says Fourie.

“Holiday camps for individuals are our primary speciality and school tours are a secondary service that we offer out of the school holiday season. We offer sleepover camps for children between the ages of 7 and 17 years old. Individual children can book for our American-style holiday camps running every school holiday year-round. During the school term, we invite a select group of schools to come and experience Sugar Bay for themselves. We have multiple schools who join us every week.”

Swanepoel said, “Returning from the camp feeling energized and ready to tackle the academic year speaks volumes about the positive impact of such experiences on students’ overall wellbeing and motivation.”
