Unity College welcome parents to the school for the first time after Covid 19

Shool meeting used to be online but they now agree it is safe to have them in person.

Unity College opened its doors to parents for the first time since Covid-19. In the thick of the pandemic, all meetings were held online and the school was happy to welcome them back to the school. The parents came into the school excited to get feedback on the progress of their children and their achievements. According to Unity’s rector Greg Fillmore, despite the sweltering temperatures on the day, the energy in the room was palpable. “It was so nice for parents to meet their children’s teachers. We will create more opportunities for focused interactions in the future.”

The parents were so excited to engage in the discussions at the school and have input where it is needed. The teachers explained the programmes, the winter, summer and sports uniforms. They explained to the parents the different sports days for each phase. “The centre for life, vocational skills and work experience will be on Tuesdays unless communicated otherwise,” said Fillmore.

The deputy principal of the school, Carolyn Slabbert shared her thoughts on multimodal communication for special needs children. She also shared the different school events to take place throughout the year. “Our next event is the school swimming gala on March 2. Our children have been practising and are looking forward to the day.” By the end of the meeting, the parents were satisfied and were proud of the progress of their learners.
