Carol bring ‘Heaven on Earth’ for singles to mingle

Carol Ehlers has opened a space for singles to find love at her home in Fourways.

Carol Ehlers could no longer keep up with her daughter who refused to stop nagging her to get a man in her life. At first, Ehlers brushed it off, but later took her daughters advice into consideration.

But because she also knew there were many in the same boat – she thought it would be a great idea to invite singles to come and mingle at her home in Fourways.

“My mom hosted gatherings at our home when we were younger. I realised people are lonely and need human interaction. I have been a single mom and my daughter keeps nagging me to go out and date or meet new friends because my friends turned away from me when I fell pregnant with her. I have been so consumed with raising her as a single mom spending as much time with her seen her grow up meeting new friends and a soul mate was not on the cards.

“We have a little venue on our property and people come here. We have now named it Heaven on Earth, one of my daughter’s friends came up with this name. I learned people don’t want to go to fancy awkward dinners that cost a fortune to meet people or go online dating.

Ehlers was excited seeing an idea turning into a day filled with so much love. She said as she described the atmosphere that the singles were shy at first but later got along like a house on fire.

“We posted in the Fourways community group online for invites. This is because I kept seeing posts about people wanting to meet or make friends as they were new to town or friends have immigrated or passed on. People who joined were of all cultures, and aged from 30 to 75. It was the 75 years old ladies who were asking why so few men while the young ladies were just happy to meet new authentic friends there were about five men and rest women.”

It is the great energy and authenticity combo that made Ehlers’ heart skip a beat.

“It is hard to meet awesome men today who will be able to cope with my kindness, energy, and love for life. As a business owner I need to date a business owner as being on the same page or level I think sustains a relationship and brings understanding. My mother brought me up to be an independent woman I’m teaching this to my child however the older I get (51) I am becoming less independent and now ask for help or say thank you when help is offered.”

When asked if some found love, she said it is too soon to tell. “We did see one or two sparks fly. People are also hesitant and I think at our age we don’t rush into love. Women also are old fashioned we want the men to do all the hunting. It was the two pensioners that were saying they want more men at our event.”

“The people were amazing. We asked for donations for my daughter’s animal rescue in our first event. I got support from the guys who attended with my mom’s passing and it was amazing as we had only met them the day before. We try to get everyone involved in the cooking, chopping veggies, or doing simple things to make it interactive.”
