Volunteers appreciate Dainfern School for food donations

Rainbow Kids Pre-School expresses its gratitude to Country Readiness School in Dainfern for the thoughtful gesture.

Christmas came early for Rainbow Kids Pre-School learners. They received donations of tinned food from Country Readiness School in Dainfern on November 13.

The pre-school’s volunteer and teacher, Bronwen Barnes said they are humbled by the thoughtful gesture.

“We currently have 40 kids aged three months to six years and also offer an after-care service to primary school children. We are based in Malatjie Informal Settlement in Lanseria, and there is no running water or electricity in the area.”

She said Country Readiness School hosted their Christmas party on November 9. During the event, the school asked families to donate tinned and dry food which will be donated to a less fortunate school – Rainbow Kids Pre-school was the lucky recipient.

An overjoyed Barnes said the timing was just right. “Rainbow does not receive any government aid and so relies on school fees and donations to feed our children. December and January can be stressful time as many parents do not pay their full school fees as they prefer to keep their money for Christmas. Therefore, donations are much needed at this time.”

But this is not the first time that the school has donated according to Barnes. “CRS has supported Rainbow for a few years. They have been very wonderful. We have a lovely relationship because of the Christmas parties they host yearly. We are always grateful for, over-the-counter medicine like panado syrup or cough syrups, nappies of all sizes, and books; we have a library and educational toys. It is so important for us to have this kind of assistance because they help us a lot with running the preschool. Anyone who wishes to donate can contact me on 072 568 1962.”
