Police festive season operations put criminals behind bars

The police festive operation in Douglasdale has been a great success in arresting criminals terrorizing the community.

Dougalsdale police’s festive season operations yielded a total of 66 arrests from November 11-14.

According to the police spokesperson Captain Tsietsi Phora, the suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from rape, pointing of a firearm, possession of drugs, dealing in drugs, housebreaking, theft, drinking alcohol in public, driving under the influence of alcohol, assault on a police officer and shoplifting amongst others.

He said this was part of the SAPS safer festive operation, “[We worked] together with other law enforcement agencies during operations that were conducted throughout the area.”

He added: “During a multidisciplinary greenbelt operation which comprised of the SAPS, City of Joburg, Crum, JMPD, home affairs, social development, CPF/Community in Blue Patrollers and security companies which was held in the early hours of Tuesday, November 14, a further 40 undocumented persons were apprehended.”

The station commander of Douglasdale, Brigadier Veeshani Arikum expressed her gratitude to all the law enforcement agencies for being hard at work to ensure increased visibility in the area and the safety and security of the community at large.

This follows another successful joint operation by the station which saw the arrest of 52 suspects. The operation took place from November 3- 5.

“The suspects were arrested for different crimes ranging from murder, contravention of section 49 (3) of the Immigration Act, Contravention of foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act 54 of 1972, Contravention of Section 49 (1) of the Immigration Act, assault with the intention to do grievous bodily harm, common assault, possession of drugs, reckless and negligent driving, and shoplifting.”

He added: “During the operation, which was held on November 5, a 29-year-old man was also arrested for the murder of a 37-year-old man in Bloubosrand. He will appear at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on November 7. “
