This is an organisation that recognises outstanding achievements by extraordinary South Africans – be it in performing arts or sports – just to inspire young people to make the best out of their dreams. Moutang joined the likes of a singing group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and the late rugby player, Joost van der Westhuizen, among other Hall of Famers.
The prestigious event was in collaboration with Tsogo Sun and hosted on November 9.
Attendees had to walk down memory lane with Motaung watching short clips of him on a large screen depicting his resilience as he built his club from scratch. Government representatives such as Panyaza Lesufi and Zizi Kodwa appeared on the esteemed guest list.
Motaung dedicated his achievement to his parents for allowing him to follow his dreams. He said even though his dad had hoped he would become a lawyer, he was also so supportive of him.
“I thank my parents, Ceyland and Manana Motaung, who did an incredible job of raising me and my siblings. My father would have preferred for me to be a lawyer. But I had my own desires and he understood. He fully supported me on my journey.”
He added that his parents were so supportive of him that they allowed him to turn his home into a clubhouse, “They welcomed everyone to their house in Soweto. We would have players coming in from as far as Durban and they would stay with us,” he recalled.
South African singer-songwriter, Sipho Hostix Mabuse graced the stage with an iconic music performance to entertain the audience.
