Crawford International learner is always ready to go above and beyond

Crawford International Fourways learner is at the top of her from after she obtained two awards at Kumon centre.

Azure Rhéa Naidu made her parents proud when she obtained two advanced Students Honours Roll (ASHR) awards at Kumon centre. This means the Grade 1 learner from Crawford International Fourways is now solving bigger math problems. She is currently doing Grade 3 maths.

Her mother, Dr Tania Samantha Reddy-Naidu said, the significance of the awards is that they highlight Azure’s potential to grasp concepts well beyond her school grade. “For us as a family – we view this as providing her with a mammoth springboard to excel in those areas and have unparalleled confidence at school. Azure is very proud of her wins.”
Azure has always been friends with books since she was a toddler, “She started reading sight words at age three,” her mother shared.

But that is not all, you can still count on Azure when it comes to the English language, “She got ASHR 1 for English – which means she is currently doing Grade 2 English. ASHR 1 award is for when a student is participating in work six months to a year above the current grade.”

She is the youngest student to have received an ASHR 2 award for maths at the school. Azure is proud of her wins and hopes to venture into medicine like her mother.
When asked what she loves about the subjects she said, “I love the ease of mathematical calculations, and expanding my vocabulary, so that I can impress my dad in conversation.”

Azure currently reads 10 Grade 2-level books per week. This is mainly because she is always eager to do her homework on these subjects. After all, she loves learning new concepts and applying them in class.

Her mom said, “She does her Kumon maths work daily. Consistency is key. While at home, she is guided by her maternal grandmother with her daily maths and English, and she does in-class lessons with her instructor, Sophia Kyprianides, once a week, at Kumon Fourways. When she achieves a goal or has a good end-of-term report, she is usually granted what we call a ‘YES Day’ where she can ask for anything (within reason) and my husband and I have to say yes.

“Her requests are usually quite simple – like going out to her favourite restaurant or having more candy than she’s usually allowed but it always entails lots of fun for the whole family. Azure is in Grade 1. This award ceremony recognises all those children who have excelled at Kumon and are engaging in schoolwork above their current school grade.”
