Crawford learner pens joyful letter to British author

Joy Dube from Crawford International Lonehill finds joy in reading books and recently wrote a letter to one of her favorites.

Meet: Joy Dube a Grade 7 learner from Crawford International Lonehill wrote a letter to the famous Author of the Harry Potter books – J.K Rowling and was lucky to receive a reply.

Speaking to Joy you feel her calm and confident personality as she says, “I enjoy reading and my favourite genres are fantasy, mystery and romance”. She says she is currently reading ‘The School of Good and Evil’ by Soman Chainani.

Being a Grade 7 counsellor, she did not try to think too hard when choosing to be a media centre assistant at the school. The client experience officer and receptionist, Louise Clarke-Mathers, said that is how Joy started a ‘Book Challenge’ competition to encourage learners to read.

“She infuses a love of reading with the preparatory students and instils in them the importance of how it can help them academically as well as with communication skills. The Grade 5 winner of her challenge won a tuck shop voucher,” shared Clarke-Mathers.

Joy lives by her biggest belief, which is, “When you have a dream, you have to go grab it and never let go. If you have a favourite author, write to them, you may be lucky and receive a reply too!” shared the proud learner.

Clarke-Mathers added: “Look out for Joy Dube in years to come, she could be on the top ten best authors list!”
