On October 13, the Beagle Watch crime prevention team – with the help of footage from their CCTV cameras – were able to arrest an e-hailing taxi driver at Dainferin Shopping Centre.

“They were stealing alarm beams. I cannot confirm at the moment that the driver who was with the suspect that morning was involved with the crime, but the same vehicle can be confirmed to have been used in the theft cases of beams in West Rand.”

The private security company tracked the suspect who was arrested in the afternoon in Dainfern, “The vehicle was caught on a CCTV camera earlier in the week when one of the passengers descended and stole an alarm beam. With the help of our CCTV team and teams on the ground, the suspect was tracked and apprehended on Friday.”

The driver was arrested at the shopping centre and taken to Douglasdale Police Station. He was then transferred to the police in Honeydew.

He added: “This is the second vehicle that we successfully impounded which is also linked to similar cases.”
