Crossroads School high-flyers head to the bird park

One of the school's class of Grade 3s headed to Montecasino Bird Park where they encountered some really cool animals.

One class of Grade 3s from Crossroads School recently took a trip to the Montecasino Bird Park. The only thing happier than this group, on this particular day, were probably the larks.

As the bird park was closely linked to their curriculum, the Victory Park-based learners headed to Fourways where they enjoyed a trip that focused on educating them about conservation and the importance of protecting species.

They learned some really interesting facts, such as that flamingos get their pink colour from what they eat and that a toucan’s skin can appear transparent when placed at a specific angle in the sun.

Within the aviary, they encountered 60 species of birds and while they walked through the park they came face-to-face with reptiles, mammals, and exotic species from around the world. The epic day also featured them seeing our national bird, the Blue Crane; something they really loved.
