Mrs SA Finalist uses title to uplift sisterhood spirit

Mrs SA contestant is intent on giving back to women in the community, especially those who are victims of gender-based violence.

When Terisa Hsu-Lee and her husband decided to tie the knot, she was introduced to an award-winning jewellery designer, Angela Yeung, for their wedding ring.

But this was also someone who looks out for women and what attracted Hsu-Lee to eventually become friends with Yeung because she upholds the same values.

Yeung is the founder of Impilo Collection Foundation whose mandate is to stand for humanity.

In 2022, the foundation launched an initiative called #EmpowerHER to aid in alleviating the desperate need that exists in impoverished communities for bras.

This is after they discovered that not having access to a properly-fitting bra is one reason women become victims of gender-based violence because of persevering abusive relationships for financial support. The initiative also aims to make these women more confident than ever.

Since its inception, Yeung has set a target of kilometres to climb some of the highest mountains outside the country. Her team in turn, raises the same number of bras for the victims of gender-based violence through donations and fundraising projects.

This year was no different. Hsu-Lee, who is a Mrs SA contestant, joined the initiative and together with Dainfern Gold Estate and Sindy Thomsett from the Home Owners Association, they collected 249 bras through donations.

“Embarking on the Mrs SA journey I had a very clear intention to use my title as a Mrs SA contestant and my personal brand to raise awareness and be of service to the causes and charitable organisations that are close to my heart.

“I have witnessed and admired the amazing work done by the Impilo Collection Foundation in the past few years, and in the spirit of sisterhood and being of service to the women in need of bras in South Africa, I decided that I wanted to align myself with the #EmpowerHER initiative.”

“We decided to get residents from Dainfern Golf Estate involved with the collection because Angela Yeung has been away to climb Mount Manaslu at 8136m. We are super proud that she reached the 8136m true summit of Mount Manaslu.
