Crawford school art show back with a bang

Crawford International Fourways makes a comeback with not only one but two spectacular productions for the school community to enjoy.

Crawford International Fourways School has marked its arts and culture programme with two productions, which saw the Grade 1 to 3 learners performing ‘Hooked on Disney’ while the Grade 4 to 7 took ‘Dancing Through The Decades’ for the delight of the school community after a four-year hiatus.

The Director of the shows, Mercia Silcock, said, she could not wait to showcase the exceptional talent and creativity of students and have fun with our students on stage, “We were not able to showcase drama and music on stage in our annual productions, due to lockdown protocols.”

That is why directing the two shows after their four-year break, was not as easy as it looked on stage, “directing two shows was a huge undertaking, but we had to give every student an opportunity to shine.”

The ‘Hooked on Disney’ has captivated the audience with its enchanting renditions of famous Disney songs from the movies Aladdin, Moana and Encanto just to name a few.

The Grade 4 to 7 production took the audience through musical history from Elvis, Grease and ABBA to Backstreet Boys, Destiny’s Child and Miley Cyrus. The productions had hits from a wide range of musical genres, dazzling choreography and showcased an exceptional talent on stage.

“A special mention goes out to all the staff and students whose dedication to music and drama and the countless hours spent rehearsing and perfecting their performances to bring the productions to life,” said Crawford’s public relations officer, Tasneem Evans.

While the school’s principal battled to hide his joy, Ian Rothman, “These ambitious productions showcase the hard work, dedication, and passion of our students.”

He also treated the Crawford International Fourways family with his delivery of the ‘I Did It My Way’ song by Frank Sinatra. “They have overcome challenges, pushed their boundaries, and poured their hearts and souls into these musical masterpieces” expressed Rothman.

He added: “From the beautifully crafted set designs, lighting, sound and stunning costume coordination, we could not have pulled it off without a wonderful behind-the-scenes team. The annual productions give our school a platform to nurture and showcase the artistic talents of our diverse student body. We are incredibly proud of our vibrant and dynamic students and staff.”
