Beaulieu College hosted a heritage day for their learners

Learners did their research and came ready to show others what their heritage brings to the table.

Beaulieu College hosted a Heritage Day event on September 21 for their learners to celebrate and embrace diversity within their school.

Learners represent the Zulu nation.

The aim was to create a fun day where learners could also celebrate the country’s multicultural identity. Various cultures were drawn from a hat and the different classes adopted these identities, that they researched and exhibited. The learners wore their cultural clothing in the morning and later changed into their ‘class culture’ outfits.

Learners were given a platform to give a presentation on their class cultures.

The different classes were given a task where they had to give a five-minute presentation of either dance or festival practised by their cultures. They were also required to prepare food eaten by their cultures. The food was tasted by judges who awarded prizes for the best dish.

According to the head of the cultural department, Ferosa Jamal, “As a school, we aim to embrace the different diverse backgrounds of our students and we are hoping this exhibition educated our students to be more mindful and understanding of each other’s cultures.”
She also thanked the parents for supporting this initiative.

Learners of Beaulieu College came dressed in their home heritage attires. They were excited to show off their traditional outfits.
