Art brings the community of Fourways together

Three-day exhibition helps children put their work on show.

A three-day exhibition held at Norscot put a smile on many community members’ faces, who hope this will be a yearly experience to bring their community centre back to life. The art exhibition organised and held by Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club was a success when artists sold their work in numbers.

The club invited both professional artists and youngsters from different schools to come to showcase their talents. A total of 15 professional artists graced the event with their presence while eight schools participated and let various children come to show their hard work and talent.

“This is our second time hosting an art exhibition and I can gladly say this year everything was much better, it showed proper planning and the community loved it. We hope to do this annually because it is a chance for different artists to show their work. My wife saw a painting of roses she liked. It was a very beautiful painting, but I could not buy it for her because someone else loved the painting and I am trying to have the art out there so that the painters can also make a name for themselves.,” said the public relations officer and member of the club, Stephen Margo.

The exhibition was held from September 9 to September 10 and had different sorts of entertainment including a market that had over 20 stalls which also gave different people different opportunities.

“On Sunday we gave food vendors a chance to supply our market with good food which can help community members come together and know each other better,” said Margo. He further added that they had raffles with different prizes. “We got different prizes from hotels and the shopping centre.”

The exhibition is aimed at getting funding that would restore the community centre to its original state. “We need to fix the area, fix the windows, get a carpenter, fix all the doors, all the little things. We need to bring back the essence of our community back,” said Margo.
