Kyalami community repair and instal toilets

The Kyalami Corner supported the Greater Kyalami Conservancy and the Water, Amenities, Sanitation Services Upgrade Programme as they gave back to the community.

The Kyalami Corner was in support of the Greater Kyalami Conservancy (GEKCO) and the Water, Amenities, Sanitation Services Upgrade Programme (WASSUP) as they gave back to the community as part of their Mandela Day initiative.

The organisations embarked on repairs and installation of toilets and sanitation in Diepsloot.

Both GEKCO and WASSUP are committed to helping improve amenities for disadvantaged communities in the Kyalami area. Other organisations such as Wot-If Trust and Sticky Situations also joined the initiative. This year, the organisations embarked on repairs and the installation of toilets and sanitation which is in line with Kyalami Corner’s environmental social, and governance (ESG) strategy that embraces the United Nations (UN) SDGs. This was important to highlight the need to get involved in this project which strives to improve the living conditions of the community.

The project revolved around refurbishing community toilets in Diepsloot Ext 1 where 12 toilets, taps, and drains were repaired while two major streets were cleaned. “This was an eye-opening experience with our team stepping out of our day-to-day comfort zones and performing a public service of such a nature. It is just a pity that Mandela Day is once a year, but the onus is on us to do the little that we can for others in the spaces where we exist. It is imperative that pay it forward with small acts of kindness that make a big impact in the lives of others,” said Daphney Teffo, marketing manager for Kyalami Corner.

Skilled plumbers including Plumblink assisted the organisations in their refurbishment efforts. Kyalami Corner and organisers extended their gratitude to all the sponsors, government and everyone involved for their support and assistance in helping to create a safer, cleaner, and functioning environment for the residents of Diepsloot Ext 1.
