Residents struggle with ongoing water leaks in Greenpark

Greenpark residents have been facing persistent water leaks, causing frustration and further damage to the community.

Greenpark residents have been facing persistent water leaks; causing frustration and further damage to infrastructure. Despite reporting a burst pipe and the subsequent arrival of the Joburg Water team, the initial burst was resolved but another was caused during the initial repair process, according to residents.

Initially, residents believed that the Joburg Water team would promptly address the burst pipe issue. However, shortly after the initial repair, another burst occurred in the same location.

Louise Cleland, one of the affected residents, expressed her disappointment, saying, “The burst pipe was attended to, but complications arose during the repair. While fixing the major burst, another burst occurred, which we believe was caused by the digger when it was excavating the area around the original burst. Unfortunately, the second burst was not adequately repaired on the night of June 12, and the pipe continues to leak profusely.”

In light of these ongoing issues, residents are urging Joburg Water to take immediate action to resolve the problem. The persistent leaks not only cause further damage but also contribute to mounting frustration within the community.

Cleland reported the continuing leak to city authorities, who assured her that the matter had been escalated and that a team would be sent to inspect the site. Cleland expressed her dissatisfaction, stating, “Nobody has come yet to address the issue.”

Residents are hopeful that Joburg Water will heed their pleas and promptly resolve the ongoing water leaks. The community is eagerly awaiting action from the authorities to alleviate their distress and prevent further damage.

Joburg Water spokesperson, Nolwazi Dhlamini was sent the reference numbers for both bursts by the Fourways Review and this is the response we received.
“The call regarding the major burst pipe was logged on June 11. The repair work was carried out on June 12, which was within Johannesburg Water’s turnaround time of 48 hours for major burst pipe incidents.”
