Kyalami resident has hopes of growing two NPOs

Getting involved in two NPOs has seen Kyalami resident Terisa Hsu-Lee wanting to lend a helping hand.

A Kyalami resident recently signed up to start supporting andworking with two different NPOs in her community.

Terisa Hsu-Lee (40), who is currently a Mrs SA semi-finalist, started working with the Jessica Matheson Foundation and the Impilo Collection Foundation.
She was named spokesperson for the former by the foundation. Hsu-Lee’s passion and desire to give back to a cause that empowers women and children led her to Impilo Collection Foundation.

“Angela Yeung, the founder of the Impilo Collection Foundation, has been a long-term friend of mine. I have been witnessing her amazing passion and dedication towards humanity throughout the years and have been very inspired by her leadership and passion for positive change,” she said.
The Jessica Matheson Foundation works towards having counsellors or social workers available at every government school to deal with depression, anxiety, drug addiction and other mental health illnesses affecting school children.

Impilo Collection Foundation members help young teenage girls get the right bra for them as part of their EmpowerHer bra drive.

Impilo Foundation empowers victims of gender-based violence and femicide through social projects. One of these projects includes the EmpowerHer bra drive. It assists in collecting and donating bras to women and teenage girls in need of bras.
Hsu-Lee said she has been given a platform to lift the voices of the organisations. “Being a voice for the two foundations is what I was propelled to do. To raise awareness of what the organisations are about and encourage businesses and individuals to support and get involved,” she said.

“When I embarked on the pageant journey, I had a belief that an invisible crown of service has already been placed on my head, and that I must go forth and make a difference in whatever way I can to uplift communities and bring back the spirit of Ubuntu.”

Kyalami resident Terisa Hsu-Lee aims to make waves in her community while she participates in the Mrs SA competition.

Hsu-Lee’s involvement in the community expands further as she also was part of her children’s school’s community outreach programmes.
The Kyalami resident wants to add and contribute to both organisations. “My goal with the Jessica Matheson Foundation is to dedicate my time to be their spokesperson, to go to schools to speak on issues of self-love, self-worth, depression, anxiety and suicide. To be a messenger of positive narratives and encourage kindness, compassion and support amongst the youth,” she said.

“I am looking for sponsors who would be interested in funding the Impilo Bra Collection Boxes for the Impilo Collection Foundation. I am also trying to get more individuals to become social warriors for the Impilo Collection foundation and extend their time and service to the community.”
