Book characters take over Crawford International Fourways for World Book Day

Crawford International Fourways learners and staff engage in a number of reading activities to celebrate World Book Day.

Crawford International Fourways celebrated the annual World Book Day event.

Celebrated worldwide on April 23, the day encourages reading among children and adults alike.
Learners and staff at the school dressed up as their favourite book characters on April 21. The school also celebrated their reading-buddy initiative where learners get into pairs and read aloud to each other.

The school further partakes in a ‘stop, drop and read’ event, which is a spontaneous time where all learners and staff members stop what they are doing to have a period to read their chosen book.

Principal Ian Rothman was thrilled to celebrate World Book Day at the school this year.
“Reading is fundamental to a child’s education, and we believe that it’s crucial to foster a love of books while promoting literacy and education in our learners. We are excited to participate in activities that inspire our students and encourage them to explore the wonderful world of literature,” he said.

World Book Day is celebrated to encourage the love of reading, books, and the authors who created them. It is a day to inspire and encourage reading, promote literacy and education, and celebrate the joy of books.

Learners were also encouraged to bring a book to donate to an underprivileged school to further share the love of reading.
