Crawford learner lets her skills do the work in competitions

Crawford International Lonehill learner and dancer, Danni-Leigh Slater has achieved a number of awards in various competitions.

A Crawford International Lonehill will be representing South Africa in an upcoming global competition.

Part of the Natasha Academy of Dancing in Lonehill, Danni-Leigh Slater (14) will be heading to the 2023 World Finals in Portugal from June 30 to July 8. She had competed in the Dance World Cup SA in March.

In the competition, she had placed third in the show dance solo category and fourth in the lyrical solo. Only the top six dancers are placed per age category. She was competing against girls up to three years older than her as categories saw up to 40 dancers per section, ages 13 to under 16.
The dancer had also recently taken competed in the World Lyrical Dance Federation South Africa (WLDF) where she received first place and overall winner. It was for her lyrical solo – Level 1 under 16 performance. She also obtained an award for the most captivating dancer.

Currently, she is ranked 10th on the WLDF world ranking table from her results last year. From this, she qualified to represent the country at the World Lyrical Championships in Ireland from August 3 to 6.

Last year, Danni-Leigh at competed in the Acrobatic Sports South Africa (ASSA) national championships. She placed first place, overall highest winner for Acrobatics Level 10 across all age groups up to 18 years. Achieving a near perfect score of 9.98, she obtained her ASSA national colours.
“I love the spotlight when I am dancing on stage, showcasing all my hard work and dedication throughout the year. When I dance on stage, I lose myself in the music and my movements,” she said.

She lives by the quote from Erik Bruhn that states ‘Dance every performance as if it were your last’.
