It follows the story of a number of students in a school for the performing arts and their challenges and successes.
Among the large lead cast are learners Nathan Sand and siblings Gcobolwethu and Avuyile Dlova who play eager and aspiring dancer Bobby Santos, shy but ambitious singer Trisha Bishop and aspiring performer Christine Bishop respectively.
The learners began rehearsals for the show in early January this year.
“I’m really excited to perform because we have a lot of talent. I am excited to see how people are going to react to it. We have a trick up our sleeve this year, so it’s thrilling,” said Avuyile.

It is not the first time the three learners have been involved in a major production and have some suggestions for next year’s show they would like to perform. These included popular productions of Hamilton, Mamma Mia and West Side Story.
Nathan, Gcobolwethu and Avuyile said the performance’s attendees can look forward to including Black and Gold, The Greatest Showman and Fame.
The learners said in the future, they would like to go into the theatre industry.

Director of the production, Shaun Young said the show joins a number of musicals together. The show was about being able to show the strongest dancers, singers and musicians.
“We wanted to showcase the performing arts as a whole that we have at the school. We have a dance, drama and music department. It is why we made the setting very similar to the musical Fame,” he said.

Young, alongside choreographer Shelley Innes and musical director Heidi Huizinga, spoke on the musical numbers performed by the cast.
“Every single song grows on you, and the learners have made it special in their own way. For the learners, it’s the big and noisy numbers they enjoy performing, whereas the crew are also looking forward to the more soulful ballads,” said Huizinga.
