Fourways basketballer receives award for successful season
Sixteen-year-old St John’s College basketball player from Fourways, Yanda Peter concluded his season with a number of awards.
A Fourways basketball player received top awards for his recent basketball season.
Yanda Peter (16) rounded off his competitive season by being named defensive player of the year at the St John’s College annual basketball awards. His team, the U16A team, went undefeated throughout the season. They won all 21 games played and scored 938 points in the process.
The team also won two prestigious basketball tournaments in the season. These were the AISJ (American International School of Johannesburg) U16 basketball tournament and the St Stithian’s College U16 Basketball Tournament.
Yanda was selected for the All-Star team at the St Stithian’s College U16 tournament as one of the standout performers in the event. This was after he was named to the All-Star team at the St David’s Marist Inanda Hoops U15 tournament at the end of last year.
Looking back at the recent season that runs from September to March, some of Yanda’s achievements also included:
- The St John’s College U15A team won the St David’s Marist Inanda Hoops U15 tournament on October 20 – 23 last year
- Selected for the South African U16 National Basketball Team for the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region Five Youth Games on December 2 – 11 last year
- Won a bronze medal for the South African u16 National Basketball Team at the AUSC Region Five Youth in Malawi
- The St John’s College U16A team won the AISJ U16 Basketball Tournament on January 26 – 28
- The St John’s College U16A team won the St Stithian’s U16 Basketball Tournament on February 10 – 12.
