Edu Inc in Fourways rejoices 10 years with bursary launch

Edu Inc based in Fourways looked back on the last 10 years since their inception, and look forward to giving learners a chance at education.

A Fourways school is launching a bursary fund for learners in celebration of its 10th anniversary this year.

Education Incorporated, known as Edu Inc, was founded by Jacqueline and Gershom Aitchison in 2013. Their vision was to develop well-rounded learners who could successfully embrace and adapt to the rapidly-changing world.

The school plans to announce the ‘Alumni Scholarship’ at an upcoming gala dinner. It affords the chance for alumni to make a minimum monthly R50 contribution towards a bursary for one of the children. Executive head, Jacqueline added that the ultimate goal is to build a bursary fund for one child per grade. “There are so many deserving children out there with the potential to be one of the worlds’ next greats, and this provides an opportunity for them to have that potential cultivated,” she said.

With academic excellence prioritised, the school instils a notion of ‘portfolio of self’ in each learner as a principal of lifelong learning. Headmaster Gershom believes there is a correlation between the approach one uses in education and children’s mental and social well-being. “We believe traditional approaches to schooling and written school leaving examinations are not sufficient to prepare our students to meet the challenges of the future,” he said.

Some of the school’s alumni are counted in the country’s emerging sporting and cultural stars. “As part of developing a portfolio of self, we encourage each person involved in our school, to bring their passions and interests to bear in their overall skill set,” Jacqueline said.

“Among our learners are e-sports, equestrian, golf and archery champions for example, and it is our role as educators to accommodate the demands of their fields of interest and build them into their curricula. Our classes of 10 to 12 learners allow for this while holding true to the tenet of personal development and growth for future readiness.”
Jacqueline concluded, “We look back on our first decade with immense pride. From a zero base back in 2013, we have built a highly successful school that is rethinking the way today’s young people should be educated.”
