Local guitarist and singer graces crowd with various well-know tunes

Lungelo Moyo has deemed his music style to be as eclectic as his taste in music, and says it shows in the music he plays and performs.

A local guitarist and singer has a new EP in the works, while still performing around the province.

Lungelo Moyo recently entertained members of the public at the Chilli Lane Shopping Centre in Sunninghill, and he has been on the music scene for a number of years.
The singer realised where his passion lies in 2018 – when he decided to become a musician full time.

“I have been performing in various forms for more than half my life. Ensembles, choirs, bands…basically whenever and wherever I could,” he said.
“It’s been four years and counting since I became a full-time musician. We don’t count 2020 that year didn’t happen. I get to do what I love full time, which is make music, perform live and tell all the dad jokes I want.”

There is not one genre that would describe Moyo’s sound due to the range in music he enjoys and could range from South African kwaito to heavy rock and metal music.
“Ultimately, I like to play what speaks to who I am, and that’s a lover of any and all good music. Even as a consumer, my music taste is quite eclectic and I would like to think that that reflects in both the music that I make as well as the music I choose to perform.”

When discussing his career goals, Moyo says he aims to invoke a feeling in the listener of his music, of winding down and relaxing after a hard week.
“So picture this – it’s a Friday afternoon or evening you just had a long week and you’re having a drink or whatever you do to relax and just want to forget a little bit, I want this music to be the one that helps you do that and get you through to the next week,” he explained.

Singer Lungelo goes full voice with a choir ensemble at a performance.

“That is how I want to impact society. Yet, in the same breath – and I know this may seem like a contradiction – [I want to] have people ponder on societal issues… maybe someone somewhere out there will hear the songs and have a solution.”
Aside from growing his music career, he has taken inspiration in wanting to play various instruments from Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Jacob Collier. “I would like to play any instrument I can lay my hands on, but at the top of my list is a cello, with the saxophone coming a very close second.”
Moyo is working on his second four-track EP to be released in July this year.

“I’m also looking forward to the release of a number of other projects. I’m currently collaborating with and/producing music for a suite of very talented musicians. These should all be available within the coming year.”
