Ward 93 service and community’s concerns addressed with ward councillor

Residents in Ward 93 were given the chance to meet their local councillor, and bring up any service delivery issues over a cup of coffee.

A local ward councillor hosted a meet and greet, that granted residents the opportunity to meet their ward’s leader and address concerns in their community.

Vino Reddy said this was the first time he was having an event like this and had highlighted the need for community members to get to know their ward councillor. “This was a very good event. The aim for today was to talk to the residents about the service delivery issues and bring attention to the party,” he said.

“It was for the residents to see that I am accessible as well. This gave them the opportunity to see who we are, not on an appointment basis but just to have a cup of coffee and discuss issues in the community. For the party, it was to highlight the causes that we are fighting.”
After meeting a number of community members, Reddy said residents had listed their concerns in their community that needed to be looked into. “There were basic service delivery issues raised. One was an electricity issue. Load-shedding is obviously the big problem raised, but more so that the power does not come back on time,” he said.

“We’re seeing that the power is coming back after 45 minutes to sometimes an hour later, and that has left a lot of residents cross and frustrated. The weather and rain is creating massive problems with potholes, we also have a lot of burst pipes.”
While the meeting was for residents to list their grievances in the community regarding service delivery, Reddy added that the morning’s aim was to maintain public visibility throughout the ward and assist in escalating service delivery issues to the correct entities in the community.
